Buddha's flower

The pathway is hidden by the myna's
wings, by the flame of the forest, by the flowers
of the warm summer seasons.

At that moment the king came out
and he wished to pluck the flower, for
he was on his way to see Lord Buddha,
and he thought, "It would be a fine
to lay at his feet the Hibiscus that
bloomed in evening rain."

A passing monk reminded him

"My master's judgment seat is
in the flower garden, in the birds' notes
in summer time: in the shady river-banks,
where the trees muttered in answer to the
muttering of the streams. A unseen flower
on a shrub will please him more than
a plucked flower dead by his feet."
